Jackie Reyes YANES
warrior for Ward 1

Jackie began her public service in 2007 as Ward 1 Community Liaison in the administration of Mayor Adrian Fenty, helping residents solve real problems and strengthening trust between neighborhoods and City Hall. She later served in the Legislative Branch with Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham, combining hands-on constituent services with policy work focused on housing, public safety, and economic opportunity.
Under Mayor Muriel Bowser, Jackie served as Director of the Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (2015–2021), where she expanded language access across District agencies, strengthened support for Latino small businesses, and led critical COVID-19 response efforts. Her work connected more than 20,000 residents to vaccines and delivered more than $10 million in rental assistance to families. She also led the historic Sister City Agreement between Washington, D.C. and San Salvador, strengthening cultural and economic ties while recognizing the deep contributions of the Salvadoran community in the District. During her tenure, she launched and expanded the Immigrant Justice Legal Services Program to $3.5 million, securing legal support for immigrant families.
From 2021 to 2025, Jackie continued her leadership under Mayor Bowser as Director of the Mayor’s Office on Community Affairs, overseeing 14 constituent service offices and managing a $23 million budget. In this role, she coordinated citywide community engagement and crisis response, including efforts supporting migrant families arriving at Union Station and collaboration tied to the 2025 World Pride helping showcase Washington, D.C. as a global city grounded in inclusion, dignity, and opportunity.
A champion for culture and community, Jackie helped organize the 2024 Guinness World Record for the Largest Pupusa Ever Made and has been recognized nationally by Forbes Magazine and Tiempo Latino as one of the region’s most influential Latino leaders.
In October 2025, Jackie launched her campaign for Ward 1 D.C. Council on a community-first agenda focused on real affordable housing, universal childcare, responsive constituent services, small business recovery and growth, and cleaner, safer neighborhoods.
